The Danish American Center is non-sectarian and apolitical. It is open for membership to anyone interested in Danish heritage and culture.

A member has many benefits, including:

  1. the monthly newsletter which features a calendar of events as well as news of the Danish community;
  2. reduced rates for functions and classes offered through the organization;
  3. the opportunity to more actively participate in Center programs by serving on its planning committees;
  4. use of the Danish American Center at reduced rates;
  5. access to translation services;
  6. access to renting authentic Danish costumes.

The Danish American Center offers many classes throughout the year which vary from year to year but often include: Danish language, Danish sandwich making (smørrebrød), folk costumes (folkedragt), making marzipan, folk dancing, Danish folk heroes and holidays, and how to do a genealogy and learn your family history.

The Danish American Center involves itself in the local community, participating in the annual Festival of Nations. It has sponsored theater and hosted performing artists and visitors from Denmark. Its sponsorship and volunteer help have also been extended to art shows and broader based Scandinavian events.

The social calendar of the organization includes annual Christmas parties, one for adults and one for children, a smørrebrød evening, sometimes a Fastelavnsgilde to start the season of Lent. On the first Sunday of December, 100 members or more attend the annual Christmas song evening. There are monthly gatherings at the Center with a wide variety of program material. Perhaps the highlight of the year is Grundlovsfest, or Danish (Constitution) Day. The Sunday closest to June 5th (actual Grundlovsdag) is set aside for this lively celebration which in recent years has taken place on the beautiful grounds of Danebo. Folks get together to enjoy the food (smørrebrød, kringle, and kransekage), singing, dancing, and general good fellowship found among Danes anywhere, anytime.
